Vacant and abandoned properties—whether residential, commercial, or industrial—can quickly become a source of blight if not properly maintained. Even a single unmaintained building may attract vandalism, unauthorized activity, and general deterioration, impacting the surrounding neighborhood and property values.
To help preserve community safety, appearance, and economic vitality, the City of Montebello requires all vacant properties to be registered with the Code Enforcement Division.

This requirement applies to:
If a property becomes vacant or abandoned, the beneficiary or trustee must register the property within 10 days of vacancy, ownership transfer, or notice of default.

Vacant Property Registration Application: Must be completed and submitted to Code Enforcement

Annual Registration Fee: $120.00 (non-prorated)

Registration Validity: For the calendar year in which it was submitted

Renewal Deadline: January 1 – January 31 each year
