This month, the City of Montebello recognizes these important Issues:
LGBTQ Pride Month - This month we are honoring LGBTQ Pride Month. Pride Month is celebrated every June in tribute to those involved in the Stonewall Riots with Pride Day celebrated June 28. Pride Month is largely credited as being started by bisexual activist Brenda Howard known as “The Mother of Pride.”
- Juneteenth (June 19) - Juneteenth honors the end to slavery in the United States and is considered the longest-running African American holiday. The day, June 19, marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas in 1865 to take control of the state and ensured that all enslaved people be freed
PTSD Awareness Month - National PTSD month is observed annually in June and is dedicated to raising awareness about the condition and how to access treatment. If you or someone you know might be experiencing PTSD, resources are available.
National Scleroderma Awareness Month - And lastly, we are recognizing June as Scleroderma Awareness Month. Scleroderma is a chronic progressive autoimmune disease that leads to hardening of the skin. We encourage the community to recognize the need for continued research in the cause, effective treatment, and possible cure for this disease.
