See Stay Safe

Did you know that last year the Montebello Fire Department seized more than half a ton (1200 pounds) of illegal and dangerous fireworks from private residential and business locations all around Montebello?Tragically, our paramedics also treated several severe, major trauma hand injuries as a result of the mishandling of powerful commercial fireworks.

In an effort to preserve the safey and wellbeing of our residents, we'd like to introduce the SEE, STAY, SAFE campaign. This summer, we want you to remember three important things:

SEE - This year, if you see or know something, please say something. Report illegal fireworks anonymously by calling the WE TIPS hotline at 1-800-222-TIPS. Public and resident safety is greatly increased when we all stay alert and look out for one another. Your Montebello Fire and Police Departments appreciate the public’s vigilance and support when it comes to keeping residents out of harm’s way.

STAY – We invite all residents and their families and guests to stay here with us for the City-hosted Independence Day Fireworks Spectacular so everyone can celebrate safely. Make a day of it at Grant Rea Park on Saturday, July 2 from 2:00 PM – 9:30 PM. Enjoy big band classics performed Montebello’s own “The Wiseguys” and bring the family to enjoy a variety of food, vendor offerings, a kid zone, games and activities for children of all ages. Pack a picnic and blanket, stay safe and have fun while celebrating the nation’s birthday. This event is FREE and open to all. The fireworks show begins at 9:00PM that evening.

SAFE – We are in the midst of a record breaking drought and water is a vital source of life. Instead of using to fight fires that can be prevented, we’d rather save water for drinking and other important health and safety needs. While “safe and sane” fireworks are legal here in Montebello, please be aware of the extremely dry conditions and high fire risk we are and will be in throughout the summer. Last year Montebello Fire responded to nine fire incidents across the City caused by illegal or inappropriate use of fireworks. Please help keep homes, businesses and lives unharmed this year by being smart and safe when it comes to using fireworks.
