Curbside Collection: Residents who receive curbside collection of
their refuse and recyclables are serviced by Athens Disposal Services.
Curbside collection is mandatory for single and duplex residents. Three or
more units can obtain optional curbside collection services. The current
rate for curbside collection service is $18.82 per month for once a week
collection. Property owners are billed twice annually as a line item on
their tax roll.
Residential Curbside Recycling: Currently, this program is
available to single family, duplex, and those residents who receive
curbside collection service. Contact Athens Disposal to replace lost or

What Materials Are Collected?
Red Container: The red container is
for newspaper only. No magazines, paper bags, phone books, etc. may be
recycled at this time.
Blue Container:

Glass: Food and
beverage containers only. No plate glass, ceramics, crystal, dinnerware,
etc.

Aluminum: Mostly
soft drink and beer cans. No aluminum foil, TV dinner trays, etc.

Tin Cans: Mostly
canned vegetables, soup cans, etc.

Plastic: Large
2-liter soft drink bottles, milk and water bottles, etc. If possible,
please flatten. No toys, plastic bags, cups, utensils, Styrofoam.
Yard Waste :
Apply the yard waste decals to your designated trash can(s). Place grass
clippings, leaves, and tree trimmings less than 10 inches in diameter
directly into the barrel(s). Trimings tied and bundled into no more than
4-foot lengths will be collected if placed next to barrels. No palm fronds
or plastic bags. Palm fronds are not permitted because the fibers cause
problems for the mulching machines. Yard Waste decals may picked up at
Corporate Yard or call (323) 887-4551 and request to have them mailed to you.
Holiday Schedule: Don’t forget! Residential trash and recyclables
will NOT be collected on major holidays that fall on Monday through
Friday. Instead your collection will be one day later if your regular
collection day is on or after a holiday.
Major holidays
include: New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day,
Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
Garage Sales: Garage sales are allowed four weekends out of the
year: the first weekend in March, June, September, and December. No
permits are required. Sales must be conducted between 9:00 a.m. and 6 :00
p.m. Placing signs on public property is PROHIBITED. For more information

Household Hazardous Waste: It is illegal and unsafe to dispose of
household hazardous material in the trash. Household Hazardous waste
includes paints, glues, pesticides, oils, solvents, cleansers, old
medicine, and car and dry-cell batteries. Improper disposal of these
materials can pollute the City and endanger children and pets. FREE
Roundups are typically offered throughout the County on Saturdays from
9:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m. For more information and a full listing of upcoming
