MEDIATION

Introduction

Established in 1982, by the City Council, the Housing Mediation Board assists Montebello residential tenants and property owner in reaching mutually acceptable solutions to issues concerning rent increases, claims of wrongful evictions, and housing related disputes.

It is the Board’s belief that every grievance can be helped through a third neutral party who is fair and trained in this area. Board members are objective, understanding, and have a sincere interest in people.

The Board has mediated over 880 cases with great success and is pleased to provide this free service to the Montebello residential community.

Mediation

Mediation provides a private atmosphere in which tenants and landlords are able to reach a workable solution. It is not a win-lose situation. Instead it is a process whereby both sides work together for a mutual agreement that is legally binding and confidential.

It is important to remember that mediation is not an unpleasant or threatening experience. Rather, it is an effective way of resolving disputes without the cost of attorneys.
