Kathy Salazar - Councilmember
Kathy Salazar was born and raised in New York and moved to California in 1964. She moved to Montebello with her family in 1977. She has three children, Michael, Kathy and Frances. Councilwoman Salazar is a Registered Nurse and is a member of St. Benedict’s church, Ashiya Sister City, and the Montebello Rotary Club to name a few.
As Founder and Chief Executive Officer of MELA Counseling Services Center, she and her staff counsel men, women and adolescents who have problems with substance abuse, anger management and also provides parenting programs.
The youth in our community are of utmost importance to her and she has given generously of her time and experience to working with young people in Montebello. It is through her hard work and dedication that the Montebello Police Activities League (P.A.L.) was founded in 1990 to provide youngsters with the opportunity to put their abundance of energy to work through sports programs. One of her goals is to build a 20,000 square foot community center at Holifield Park which will be a beacon of light for many children in the area.
Councilwoman Salazar is currently serving her 4th term as a member of the Montebello City Council and has held the position of Mayor on two occasions. First elected to a four-year term in 1987, winning her re-election in November of 1995 and 1999 and again in November 2007.
Councilwoman Salazar was elected to help bring change to Montebello by helping to fix our streets and sidewalks, tree trimming and city beautification as well as through economic development which will revitalize our community, bring in much needed revenue for public safety and other programs.
