MONTEBELLO BUS LINES CELEBRATES EIGHT DECADES OF SERVICE

3rd largest municipal bus operator in L.A. County focuses on a green future and innovation 

MONTEBELLO
, CA -- In 1931, a loaf of bread was eight cents, gas was ten cents a gallon and Montebello Bus Line passengers paid a nickel to ride the bus.    The City of Montebello, a quaint agricultural community located 8 miles east of Downtown Los Angeles,  had just launched its own municipal bus service on a purchased lot on the corner of Olympic and Greenwood Avenue with a fleet of four motor coaches.   As Montebello Bus Lines celebrated its 80th anniversary, its fleet is 16 times larger and provides service to over 22,000 passengers each weekday.

BIKE WINNER IS AN AVID TRANSIT RIDER

June 6, 2011 

As part of this year’s Bike to Work Day, MBL offered a free chance to win a Schwinn bike donated by Tony’s Schwinn Bike Shop.  The winner was Montebello resident Michael Forster who rides the bus everywhere.  He rides MBL Line 50 daily, transfers briefly and then rides a bike ten miles to work in the City of Long Beach.  Mr. Forster said the bus is clean, efficient and just as fast as driving in traffic.  He also enjoys riding MBL buses to the Shops at Montebello and to the mountains.
