Crime Suppression Unit

A Sergeant, 5 Detectives and 3 police officers staff the Crime Suppression Unit (CSU). This unit is responsible for the enforcement of all gang and tagger related crimes. This involves identifying gang members, taggers and their associates, as well as monitoring their activities within the city. Additionally, Detectives target areas of gang activity in the city where gang problems exist and make arrests for violations of state and local laws as well as enforcing the Gang Injunctions against the two main gangs within the city.

CSU is also responsible for enforcing all vice related offenses such as gambling and prostitution, ABC (Alcohol Beverage Control) violations and investigations related to the issuance of Temporary and Conditional Use Permits. This includes investigations initiated by the Team Members, as well as follow-up investigations from cases initiated by patrol officers, citizen complaints and informants.

Within the Crime Suppression Unit, three detectives and one officer are responsible for monitoring, identifying and prosecuting taggers within the city. Monitoring the city for vandalism is conducted via a state of the art camera system that has been set up throughout the city and which is monitored and recorded at the police department. Taggers activity is also monitored via a web based program which allows officers to track the activities of individual taggers and tagging crews.
