What is the Sanchez Adobe?
The Sanchez Adobe Historic Site is a public museum open for tours, programs and events. Built in 1844, the adobe home and grounds have a rich history of Indian, Spanish, Mexican, and American California heritage.From cattle ranching in the Mexican-era of the 1840s, to agriculture and business in the 1870s, and oil and real estate in the 1920s, the Sanchez’s participated in many of the activities that characterized the rapid growth and change of southern California during the century from 1830 to 1930...
The adobe is a Historic Landmark. It is owned by the City of Montebello and operated by the Montebello Historical Society...
The Sanchez Adobe hosts many activities as well as the annual Sanchez family reunion...Educational programs that deal with the 1800’s, offer hands on adobe brick making and old fashioned candle and butter making...The Adobe museum has an extensive, one of a kind photograph collection which offers a glimpse back into history!The Sanchez Family memorabilia as well as actual clothing worn by the family is prominently on display...
