Get in Motion with Commuters in Motion

According to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) the use of public transportation has increased more than 23% between 1995 and 2006, but unfortunately single drive-along commuters are expected to increase about 15% by 2012. This would increase cars on the road that would lead to an additional 43 million metric tons of carbon dioxide annually according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In other findings, such as a recent survey put out by Harris Interactive, stated that at least 54% of Americans commuting experienced stress while traveling to work or school.

Youth/Senior Outreach Programs

Montebello Bus Lines realizes how important it is to inform and educate potential riders that public transportation is safe, reliable, convenient, and economical. In an effort to develop strong customer relationships, Montebello Bus Lines has recently taken a proactive approach in trying to build awareness of riding MBL.  MBL has established 3 ongoing outreach programs specifically designed for seniors, youth, and commuters by developing “In Motion” programs.

Youth Outreach Program

The Youth In Motion Program offers alternative transportation benefits for parents and their children. Work and other factors often make it difficult for parents to take their kids where they want to go. MBL has a solution – the fixed route service. This program reaches out to parents to ensure them that our buses are safe, reliable, economical, and will get their kids where they need to go.

As part of our development of this program we have partnered with the Montebello School District to target children ages 11 – 17. Many of our bus routes travel through the corridors of many local schools and we also have convenient bus stops located near by. MBL feels that through our outreach efforts that both parents and youth will be informed and more confident to ride the bus as their main mode for transportation. Visit our trip planner at www.taketransit.net or call Customer Service at 323 – 887- 4600.

  • Foster a sense of responsibility and courtesy when riding the bus.
  • Provide teachers with MBL contacts to use as a resource.

The program includes a short presentation given by staff and an opportunity for the children to tour our bus. .  Staff will be available to answer questions and children will be provided with fun items such as pencils, sharpeners, and more at the end of the presentation. The school will receive one of our bus cards that emphasize all the safety and rider tips.

Senior Outreach Program

The Seniors in Motion Program involves working closely with our community’s’ senior centers and related agencies where staff offers presentations with an overview of MBL’s fixed route service, how to read a bus schedule and a system map, safety and security to assure them the system is safe and convenient. The presentation also includes a brief field trip on a MBL bus where participants receive a free round-trip, learn how to use the fare box, wheelchair ramp, stop request, and bus basics.

We have a special outreach program for seniors that involve MBL staff to come out to your senior center or organization to teach seniors how to get around by bus. The will learn everything they need to know about public transportation. Each presentation involves includes a local field trip on an MBL bus where seniors can experience the safety, convenience, and economy of traveling by bus.
