Dial-A-Ride

Dial-A-Ride Provider Change Effective June 4th, 2007
Dial-A-Ride service will now be provided by MIDVALLEY YELLOW CAB will be the new service provider for the continued Dial-A-Ride service as of June 4th, 2007. Reservations should be made at least 30 minutes in advanced, shared ride transportation service for senior residents, and qualified disabled of any age and their attendants. Photo DAR Card will be required to receive service that will only be issued to registered customers. The service utilizes vehicles equipped with wheelchair lifts upon request at the time of scheduling that will provide service transportation within the City of Montebello.

Service Area

Dial-A-Ride provides transportation services within the City Of Montebello and up to some of the neighboring cities. Please call first to ensure your destination is within the boundaries. The exact boundaries are:

You can travel throughout the San Gabriel Valley on Access Services, a service operating under the provisions of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  You must be certified to use the service.  For more information, call Access Services toll free at 1-800-827-0929 or 1-800-827-1359 (TDD).  You can apply for eligibility for Access Services by logging on to www.asila.org.

Eligibility

You may ride Dial-A-Ride (DAR) if you are a senior citizen age 62 and over, or disabled of any age and find it difficult or impossible to use Montebello Bus Line’s local bus system.  You must register to use the DAR by completing the Eligibility Form and be certified eligible prior to using DAR.  When your eligibility has been certified you will receive an ID-CARD by providing a photo (1” X 1 ¼”) along with your application.  Your ID-CARD is free, but there is a $2.00 fee to replace your card if you lose it.  We require that our passengers carry the ID-CARD and show it to the driver each time they board the DAR vehicle.

Trip Reservations and Cancellation

To request a ride, call (323) 887-4646.  Ride requests may be made 24 hours 7 days a week

  • Give your name, exact pick-up address, destination location, number of passengers in your party, and ask for the appropriate wait time. Make sure that you say that you’re a Montebello Dial-A- Ride passenger.
  • Please make sure at the time of scheduling your appoint to request if you need any special accommodations.
  • If you use a wheelchair, please advise the dispatcher that you need accessible van (may take longer up to an hour for a wheelchair accessible vehicle).

When Should I Be Ready For Appointment?

 

Please be ready to meet the van on the sidewalk when it arrives as the driver can and be sure to show your Dial-A-Ride Card to the driver.

Wheelchair Users

If you use a wheelchair, the driver will assist you in boarding the van safely and secure your wheelchair once you are in the van.  Please make sure you have a secure lap belt that is in good condition.  Wheelchairs must have secure brakes and good tires.  When you are making your reservation, please specify that you are in a wheelchair.  This will let the driver know to position the vehicle for easy access.

Companion or Group Travel

 A registered Dial-A-Ride customer may travel with their care attendant or approved service animal (for more details see Service Animals.  If you are disabled and need an attendant, he or she can ride with you at no additional cost. You must tell the Dispatcher that you will have an attendant or service animal when you make the appointment. Disabled individuals who are under 18 years old must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Service Animals

Dial-A-Ride customers may travel with an animal trained to work or perform tasks for persons with disabilities as indicated on your application. Animals other than service animals may not travel on Dial-A-Ride unless pre-approved by the Dispatch Department.

Guidelines for Using Dial-A-Ride

 

þ     Guide dogs and service animals are permitted on vans, pets are not allowed.

þ     Eating, drinking, and smoking are not permitted in vehicles.

þ     Customers are required to keep safety belts fastened while occupying a seat.

þ     Customers and drivers are expected to address each other with courtesy and respect.

þ     Please do not talk to the driver while the van is in motion.

þ     Please do not try to schedule appointments with the driver.

þ     Please do not ask the driver to make extra stops.

þ     Maximum of two pick-ups and drop-offs per reservation call may be made each day.

þ     Maximum of five (5) grocery bags are allowed per customer.

þ     Drivers are not permitted to assist you with packages.

þ     Abusive behavior is grounds for terminating service eligibility.
